Time synchronization services

If you are running a PC or very simple server, you will probably want to set your time when you boot your system, or, in some case, more often, using the "time" (port 37) protocol. If you are in the .concordia.ca domain, you are welcome to use clyde.concordia.ca (132.205.1.1) as your time server.

If you are running an important service on a Unix host, you will probably prefer to keep synchronized all the time, using the "xntp" (port 123) protocol. If so, please avoid using offsite servers, and instead, use the following high-stratum local xntp servers:

bonnie.concordia.ca
clyde.concordia.ca
tick.encs.concordia.ca
tock.encs.concordia.ca

What follows is based on a description written on 1996/07/23 by Punam Bhargava of the Concordia ntp configuration; some of the information has been updated since then:

There will be four administrative servers at Concordia running
at stratum-2, namely:

	clyde.concordia.ca	132.205.1.1
	bonnie.concordia.ca	132.205.7.81
	tick.encs.concordia.ca  132.205.96.93
	tock.encs.concordia.ca	132.205.96.94

All other Concordia University systems wishing to synchronize their clocks
should get time from the above servers and operate at stratum-3, or above.

Bonnie & Clyde will get the time from two stratum-1 servers and one
stratum-2 server:
